Wheat...West coast white wheat markets faltered a bit late last week but
regained some composure early in the week and returned to the $6.20 level.
Basis remains relatively firm at nearly $1 over Chicago futures.
Shipments...Weekly export inspections showed a big week of movement off
U.S. ports for wheat, coming in at nearly 24 million bushels. This puts the
current year total 15% ahead of a year ago at 715 million bushels. Hard red
winter was the top mover with 10.9 million bushels, followed by red spring
at 5.2 million and soft white at 3.4 million. West coast exporters loaded
10.7 million bushels of wheat, going mostly to South Korea, along with 20
million bushels of corn that went mostly to Japan.
Crop Progress...Winter wheat conditions improved over the past week for
the Pacific Northwest, with the three-state weighted index moving up to 99%
of "normal". Good to excellent ratings for Idaho gained 2% to 72%, Oregon
also climbed 2 points to 58% and Washington saw a 6% jump to 75%. Another
round of moisture before a warm weekend should favor crop development.
